5 Overhead Door Options for Your Industrial Facility

Posted on

The overhead doors you choose for your industrial facility are important. They provide security, access, and climate control. If your building is in a commercial district where it's seen by the public, then you want overhead doors that are both functional and attractive. Here are some options when choosing your new door.

The Door Material

Choosing the material for your door is an important consideration. You might want steel, which is durable in a rough environment. However, you might want aluminum, which is lighter. You can also opt to have insulation on the door, which helps with climate control in the facility.

Insulated doors have two panels, and you can choose steel or vinyl for the side that faces indoors. You can also choose the steel gauge for the durability and protection from dents that you need. The steel doors also come in a variety of styles and colors so you can select a plain white door or one that adds visual interest to your facility

Automatic Opening vs. Manual

An automatic garage door is the most convenient option, but it costs more to have a heavy-duty opener installed. If you need to save money, you can operate the doors manually. Manual operation can be by crank or chain hoist. If you want a chain hoist, you can have one installed with a safety brake that keeps the door from moving uncontrolled.

Larger Sizes

If your building needs extra-large or large doors, you'll find them from industrial overhead door manufacturers. Industrial doors are usually taller and wider off the shelf, but you can also order even larger doors if you need them to allow room for heavy equipment or large trucks to enter the building.

Service Door Additions

If you have a row of overhead doors along the back of your facility, you might not have room for an entry door too. In that case, you can buy a door that has a smaller service door built into it. This allows people to get in and out of the building when the overhead door is closed.

Window Placement Options

Unlike a residential garage door that has the windows along the top, windows in an industrial door are placed closer to the bottom so they are eye level and allow you to see the outdoors. If you prefer privacy, you can omit the windows. However, a row of windows lets in light, allows you to see trucks approaching, and makes the door a little more attractive.
